Experience of Mobility (or philosophy of mobility):
Why are people mobile?

• meeting people (humans are social beings)
• getting places
• go to work (work anywhere) building comunities?
• urban sprawl (places where people sleep)

Issues around mobility:

• mobility is not easy - expensive, punitive (esp. in relation to public transit)
• predictable public transit
• subsidized transit; cars are being subsidized too! (different channels)
  
• congestion is a *friend*
• virtual mobility via telepresense tools such as skype (decreases the need for mobility)
  

Values for transportation:

• interdependent system
• predictable/reliable
• easy to use
  
• personal

Immediate action:

• active transportation advisor committee (url?)
• public transit 5 year plan was presented 2 weeks ago and is going to be discussed this wednesday (Dec. 9th, 2009) - contact your councillor
