tip: adding panels to your roof only makes sense if you have efficient appliances.

tip: a cheaper appliance may cost you more in terms of lifetime energy cost.

Game Theory?  which systems can we create to encourage energy conservation.

Smart Grid technology?  enhancing control / communication of your consumption; time-of-use pricing.

What IF?...  every household & business was rated for energy efficiency? would that have an effect on consumption?

idea: effective way to use gt... broader system ... tax for not efficient

drawback: need energy audit ($500) before and after to be able to claim credit from.

efficiency = less carbon (just because we have lots of coal production)

A carbon tax wouldn't do much for consumer to choose... because the Coal electric producer would have to pay for that.   (Coal also produces particulates... other form of damage)

the Economic equation needs to be improved to incorporate...   true cost (full cost) accounting.

assertion: coal ash contains more nuclear waste (per megawatt hr) than Nuclear power produces. (??)

Do you think people will consume less if they know what (kWh) they are consuming?

Sensors are improving. idea:Appliance might decide when is best time to run.

Game theory tidbit: every autonomous actor will act in their own self interest.

Test pilot project with time-of-use pricing in S.Alberta seemed to affect their consumption (reduced consumption)

other ingredients in "game theory": large producers giving money to Alberta gov't....

Most of my power bill is for fixed (connection) costs.

Reading: case study on Ontario feed-in tariffs: producers of green energy get paid a premium.

Reading: actual feed-in tariffs used in Germany.

tip: Google earth could release infrared imaging of our houses.

Look up Sterling Engine (e.g. whispergen brand) produces heat and makes electricity as a byproduct.

Jan 2009 Alberta decided that you may produce energy into the grid, and you have to get paid.

new development: microinverters on each (solar electric) panel.
